Sunshine All The Way For The Autumn Show

Glorious wall to wall sunshine attracted 15,400 people to the 2011 Autumn Show & Game Fair held at the South of England Centre, Ardingly over the weekend (1 & 2 October). The wide variety of countryside attractions and entertainment proved a winning formula with visitors of all ages.  The fun dog agility shows, Warrenby Gun Dogs and dog scurries arranged by Plumpton College drew large and enthusiastic crowds throughout both days and confirmed that dogs remain a firm favourite.

Visitors of all ages thronged to experience the sights and sounds of harvest time, including country crafts, vintage machinery, falconry, horticulture, floral art, WI competitions and an imaginative arena programme – many with an audience participation element.  All new for 2011 were the Jez Avery stunt show, Sussex Peggers mounted skill at arms team and David Seamark sheepdog demonstration.

Rabbits, chickens, ducks and geese created a lively atmosphere in the Fur & Feather display where the hands-on approach delighted the younger visitors.  They also participated in the Pumpkin Trail which encouraged them to visit all areas of the Show.

England’s number one trap shooter, Charlotte Kerwood, took time out from her busy Olympic training schedule to visit the Show.  Charlotte, 25, joined her parents Dan and Jan to help run the clay pigeon shoot competition.  The shooting was once again highly popular with all ages and provided the opportunity to try and new skill.

Deborah Barber, Director of the South of England Agricultural Society said: “We were blessed with wonderful weather and delighted with our excellent attendance.  The Autumn Show is a firm favourite with visitors who especially enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and exploring all the delights of a traditional country show”.

“You have always been passionate and utterly professional in promoting Sussex and especially those venues that you represent... I wish you continued success."
