The Andy Woon Band
Andy Woon’s is one of the Jazz greats and the figurehead of several different jazz bands which can be tailored to specific budgets and requirements.
His Vintage Hot Five band of 3 musicians was formed in 1993, recreating Louis Armstrong and Bix Beiderbecke repertoires. He formed the function band Cool Sounds (4 musicians) in 1995 and a duo called Jazztrax for restaurant work.
Andy’s virtuoso trumpet style was honed by his spell in the Royal Artillery band during the 1970’s, backing artists as diverse as Semprini and Larry Adler. He worked for the Bernard Delfont Organisation for a few years in the pit band accompanying Danny La Rue, Jimmy Tarbuck, Little and Large and Ken Goodwin to name but a few. He worked with the Syd Dean Orchestra from 1976 to 1990 and also with the Southern Dance Orchestra.
In 2010 Andy recorded two CDs for Lake Records – Debbie Arthurs’ Sweet Rhythm & The 1930’s Jazz Recording Project.
“I am writing to thank the Andy Woon Dinner Jazz Quartet for the outstanding performance they gave for my Birthday party. The music was fantastic, such a rich sound. They made a very significant contribution to the success of the party which I have to say exceeded even my own very high expectations”.
