Hogwarts Day

LOGS students dressed as witches, wizards and magical creatures for Hogwarts Day

When school’s just whizard!

They may not have used the Hogwarts Express but junior students from Lewes Old Grammar School (LOGS) were transported to the Wizarding World last month, as they took part in a special Harry Potter day.

Year 2 students from LOGS’s Morley House marked the end of their ‘Magic and Mystery’ half term – where they had learned about magical stories, castles and fairytales – by dressing up as witches, wizards and magical creatures.

The day began with a ‘Potions’ lesson, where teacher Danielle Coote helped children measure and create a selection of magic concoctions designed to give them ‘super strength’ and ‘improve their spelling’.

Pupils then spent their English lesson writing instructions for their own potions and spells, which covered everything from turning invisible to flying, shooting fireballs to making your dreams come true. They also built magic number squares to put their problem solving skills to the test.

The highlight of the day came in the afternoon as the class produced magical fizzing bath bombs to take home to their families.

Danielle, who is a Year 2 Teacher and Science Leader, said: “The day was great fun for all involved and the children really embraced the idea. It’s always great to find new, exciting and engaging ways to deliver the curriculum to pupils and Hogwarts Day went down a treat!”
