Sussex Solicitors celebrate centenary

One of Sussex’s oldest legal firms has turned one hundred years old this month.

Colemans Solicitors, based in Haywards Heath, was established in 1917 by George Coleman and marked its milestone anniversary with a special event at Elvira’s Café, Borde Hill Garden on Thursday.

Bathed in late afternoon sunshine and accompanied by musicians from the Ensemble Reza, more than 120 guests came together to celebrate the firm and share fond memories of the past century.

Attendees included esteemed former partners from the firm such as Peter Stevenson, who retired in 2006, Nick Hancock, Philip Holden and Tim Cotterill. George Coleman’s grandson, Trevor, was also in attendance.

“It’s very unusual for any business to last this long – much less in the same building!” said current managing partner, Teresa Payne. “We’re so proud of, and grateful for, all of our team members that have been with us throughout that time.

Colemans has thrived through world wars, numerous recessions and many other world events and it is a testament to the team that the firm is still going strong today. We look forward to another century working with the local community.”
