Lewes student hits a high note at Trinity College London

Sussex student Lily Ellis hit a high note at Trinity College London last week by scoring an impressive 93 percent in her Grade 4 singing examination.

Lily, who attends Lewes Old Grammar School (LOGS), scored a Distinction in her assessment, winning over the internationally-renowned exam board with a pitch-perfect rendition of Handel’s ‘Silent Worship’, ‘One Hand, One Heart’ from West Side Story and ‘Something Good’ from The Sound of Music.

She also sang an unaccompanied folk song and answered aural and musical knowledge questions.

“My grandfather was a professional opera singer and sang at Glyndebourne,” said Lily, who is just 13. “I’m really excited to carry on the musical tradition of my family, and I’m so grateful to everyone who has helped me to improve my singing abilities – my family, my music teachers, and the Trinity College exam board too.”

Lily sings with the school’s Vox Choir, who performed carols to Dame Vera Lynn last week.

Rachel Munro, singing teacher at LOGS, added: “Lily is a wonderfully gifted singer and I’m so proud to learn that the prestigious Trinity College exam board recognised her remarkable talent in such a positive way.

Lily’s sister Rosie is equally gifted, and we look forward to her ‘Once in Royal David’s City’ solo at the LOGS Christmas concert next week.”
