Wayne Sleep in action with Drusilla Duffill and other students at Hurstpierpoint College
Wayne Sleep OBE brought his toe-tapping style to the Drusilla Duffill Theatre School last weekend.
The internationally-acclaimed dancer delivered a special one-off masterclass for the school’s students, as he put them through their paces with lessons in both ballet and Jazz.
Hosted at Hurstpierpoint College, the special masterclass saw Wayne teach both juniors and seniors a wide array of steps in front of an audience of family and friends.
“A great day was had by all,” said Vikki Harris, who runs the Drusilla Duffill Theatre School. “Many thanks to Virginia Lewis-Jones, our very supportive patron and a close friend of Wayne, who had offered to do something for the school two years ago. Virginia helped to put the day together and it was well worth the wait. We’d also like to thank Tim Manly for allowing us to use the wonderful theatre at Hurstpierpoint College.
“This was an unforgettable experience for our students and their families, and it was clear that everyone learned a lot under Wayne’s tutelage. Wayne himself was very pleased with how the day went – he thought the venue was excellent and was impressed by the students.”
The Drusilla Duffill Theatre School was established in 1957 and celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2016. Based in Burgess Hill, it teaches children of all ages as well as adults in a variety of different dance styles, including ballet, tap and jazz. Others schools involved in the Masterclass were Deborah Lamb Theatre Arts, JBS Dance, A2Arts, Glynde Place, Dance Beats and Nicola Miles Theatre Arts.
