Basketball tournament is a slam dunk for Sussex student
A student from Lewes Old Grammar School (LOGS) has represented England in a leading European basketball tournament.
Amelia Sandie, who is currently in Year 10, was selected for the Under 15 girls England team last year and took part in the Copenhagen Invitational event over the weekend.
The competition saw Amelia’s team win three of their five games to place seventh against teams from Denmark, Iceland, Sweden and Luxembourg, among others.
The contest marked the first time the England women’s team has made the top ten.
Amelia, who was chosen to star in the Always #LikeAGirl campaign last year, said: “It was an amazing honour to be selected and play for my country with my super talented teammates. We were thrilled to finish seventh and are aiming higher for the next tournament. It was an experience I’ll never forget”.
LOGS Murray Heywood, faculty head of PE and Games added: “We are delighted to hear of Amelia’s success with the England squad. She is an outstanding student and an exceptional young athlete – we will continue to support and follow her budding sports career very closely.”
