Charity Cheque for Dame Vera Lynn

Sir Tim Rice presented Forces’ Sweetheart Dame Vera Lynn with a £10,000 cheque for her Children’s Charity on Friday (22 September).

The sum was donated to the Dame Vera Lynn Children’s Charity by Stars Foundation for Cerebral Palsy, in recognition of the national treasure’s 100th birthday which took place in March.

Stars Foundation was founded by Dame Vera Lynn and her friend Wilfred Pickles more than six decades ago. In 2001, it became an independent charity and has since helped to raise funds for communication and mobility aids for thousands of people in the UK.

The Foundation is currently chaired by Sylvia Sims, with Sir Tim Rice, Amanda Redman and David Suchet as Vice Presidents.

“I am truly grateful to Stars Foundation for this generous donation,” Dame Vera said. “It is a wonderful organisation and it is so rewarding to see two charities which are so closely aligned working together.

Sir Tim Rice and Vice Chairman Roger Redfarn have told me all about the important projects Stars has carried out recently. This includes assisting the NHS to purchase special chairs which help children to return home after surgery to prevent hip dislocation. I am so grateful that the charities have benefited from my birthday celebrations and I thank Stars Foundation for this birthday gift.”

Sir Tim Rice said: “It is an honour to present Dame Vera and her Children’s Charity with this donation from the Stars Foundation. Dame Vera has tirelessly devoted herself to raising awareness about motor learning difficulties, and it is fantastic to see two charities which she has worked so closely with come together in this special way.”
