Choir stages singing day for Sussex youth
Sussex choir Coro Nuovo is offering aspiring young singers the chance to flex their vocal chords with a free taster day led by internationally renowned musicians.
Open to young people aged 12 and above, the Coro Nuovo Singing Day will be led by international tenor Andrew Rees, who studied at Guildhall, London and regularly works with the Royal Opera House. Andrew also judges the National Eisteddfod of Wales every year.
The day will feature a packed itinerary of musical sessions, and attendees will have the opportunity to work with esteemed vocal coach Jeffrey Lloyd-Roberts, an award-winning alumnus of the Royal Northern College of Music who has also performed at the BBC Proms.
“Youth choirs are on the rise but there are still a lot of gifted young singers working in isolation,” said Managing Chair, Catherine Kent. “This day is about encouraging young people to get involved with other likeminded individuals, and have the chance to work with some musicians who are at the top of their game.”
The day is Coro Nuovo’s latest initiative to support the next generation of singers. The final to the Coro Nuovo Young Musicians’ Bursary took place in August, with trumpeter Gideon Brooks taking home a £1000 prize.
The Coro Nuovo Singing Day takes place at 9:30 to 14:30 on Saturday 11 November at Oathall Community College, Haywards Heath. To sign up, visit: www.coronuovo.org.uk/singingday.
