World Book Day: Storytelling comes to life at Lewes Old Grammar School

Juniors at Lewes Old Grammar School (LOGS) brought books to life last week as part of their World Book Day celebrations.

Pupils from Morley House took part in a special ‘Bring Books to Life’ workshop early in the week, where a specialist choreographer worked with them in groups to re-create scenes from ‘Where the Wild Things Are’.

Using language, movement and dance, the children pretended to be ‘Wild Things’ as a way to connect with what they were reading on a different level.

Later in the week, storyteller Andreas Kornevall visited the school for a series of storytelling sessions. The children were treated to a dramatic Russian folktale accompanied by an atmospheric drumbeat, and were encouraged to join in with certain lines in the tale as well as try to understand different character’s perspectives throughout the story.

“It was great to see everyone dress up as a book character,” said David Gordon, Headmaster of Morley House. “There were some really imaginative costumes – from staff as well as students!”

‘World Book Day’ also saw older pupils from LOGS take time to share stories with the younger students, and at the same time raised funds for Book Aid International.
