Abbie Lawrance singing at LOGS 'Prize Giving'
Sussex student awarded for her sensational singing
Lewes Old Grammar School (LOGS) student, Abbie Lawrance, hit a high note last week when she was awarded the ‘Sherriff’s Cup for Singing’.
The ‘Sheriff’s Cup’ certificate, which is presented every year to one deserving student, was given to the year 10 pupil in recognition of her talent and commitment to music.
Although the award usually goes to sixth formers who have greater experience, staff made an exception after being blown away by young Abbie’s impressive vocal skills.
Her talents were on full display at the end of term ‘Prize Giving’, an assembly praising students’ achievements. In front of fellow pupils, families and teachers Abbie performed two show-stopping solos.
The first of these was “This is Me”, a popular song from the musical hit The Greatest Showman. Abbie performed this alongside the school’s Show Choir.
She then went on to perform a rendition of Maisie Peter’s ‘Place We Were Made’ on the piano, having learned to play the instrument at the age of six.
“It was my first performance in front of that many people, so I was a little nervous,” Abbie said. “Before this, I had only ever performed in front of smaller audiences, but I absolutely love performing and showing people what I can do. It was a really positive experience for me.”
She is currently working her way through the works of Ludovico Einaudi, the Italian pianist, and learning to play guitar in the hopes of broadening her musical repertoire.
“I’ve been singing ever since I can remember,” says Abbie. “Music has always been a massive part of my life and I hope to keep it that way by continuing to sing and perform.”
